Noţiunea de plash English a fost inventată de mine prin clasa a IX-a, când făceam mişto de profele - trei la număr - de limba engleză care fie aveau o pronunţie de rahat, fie nu prea ştiau limba pe care, teoretic, trebuia să ne-o predea. Aşa s-au dus, pe rând, în patru ani de liceu, trei profe. Una a fost mai vitează şi ne-a suportat doi ani, nici eu nu ştiu cum.

Eu, în total, am avut şase profi de engleză în şcoală; aşa mi-a fost norocul, un singur prof adevărat, în clasa a V-a, iar restul, fătuci care abia terminaseră şcolile şi veneau să ne înveţe pe noi. În condiţiile astea, cum să nu faci mişto de cineva care îţi vine în clasă şi urlă “Uăci mi!”? Sau cum să nu faci mişto de cineva care nu ştie să-ţi spună ce înseamnă un cuvânt simplu, din vocabularul de bază?

Ei, şi tot prostindu-ne noi şi imitându-i pe profii neînvăţaţi, am hotărât că treaba asta trebuie să aibă şi un nume. Iar eu i-am zis “Plash English”, o traducere nefericită şi mot-a-mot a expresiei “engleză de baltă”.

Colegii mei au plecat fiecare-n treaba lor, dar eu am dus mai departe obiceiul de a face mişto de şi în limba engleză, traducând aiurea cuvinte sau expresii. Apogeul aplicării Plash English-ului a fost la Cluj, unde, timp de câteva săptămâni, împreună cu Iulian Haba, şeful meu direct pe-atunci, vorbeam doar în doi peri. E greu de descris pe un blog în ce hal ne-am distrat vorbind aşa, dar o să încerc să dau câteva exemple de “Plash English” şi vă îndemn şi pe voi să vă distraţi aşa.

Bineînţeles că lista poate continua întotdeauna, dar vă las pe voi să încercaţi şi să vă bucuraţi de engleza de baltă = Of course the list can go on forever, but I’ll let you try and enjoy Plash English.

Sorry for writing this post in English, but I figured it’d be smarter to do it this way. Since I moved my blog to this new domain, I’ve been talking to a good friend of mine about all the blogs I’ve had so far. I started out with Freewebs, then moved to Genom, then Denisuca.ro, in the mean time I also started a blog on Wordpress.com, I even have a Blogspot account… But today I visited my old Freewebs page and I was surprised to discover that more than a year ago, I actually had balls. And they were big, too. I mean, huge. How else could I explain the nerve to talk about my former employer like that?

The truth is that it was far from being the ideal job, but now I just couldn’t say all those things… I guess I got older and wiser.

If I were to leave my workplace now - and that won’t happen, Cip, don’t worry!, I would definitely not say bad things about my employer. Of course, there’s a big difference between my current employer and the one mentioned in that old blog post, but still…

Older, wiser and I’ve lost my balls. God help us!

I’ve decided to write this post in English, for the British people reading it to understand.
I used to dream of one day visiting London, taking a tour of the city in those nice big red buses, taking pictures of the Thames and so much more.
I never really wanted to leave my country [Romania, that is] in search of a better life someplace else, but still, was very offended by the articles published by the British tabloids. We too have tabloids which sometimes tend to exaggerate when publishing certain stories [most of them about our “overnight celebrities”], but I don’t recall reading something so defamatory about the Brits in our newspapers.
Anyway, the aura surrounding England has suddenly turned into bad karma, as far as I am concerned. I didn’t take part in the “We’re coming! And we all have AIDS!” campaign initiated by some Romanians because I considered it to be a bit too aggressive but I do feel that I wouldn’t visit England now. I hate being where I am not wanted, so my message to the British people is: enjoy your country, and don’t worry, I won’t be bothering you in the near future!

P.S. Too bad Robbie Williams is British…
